The Dual Diploma program combines all required courses in our Art Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy programs. Students graduate as Art and Expressive Arts therapists providing maximum capacity to support others through both arts-based psychotherapy disciplines. The program runs 2.5 years from start to finish and includes two in-person summer immersions and one spring immersion, as well as online coursework over 16 months, 1000 hours (500 direct client contact hours) of practicum experience, ongoing individual and group practicum supervision, and academic and writing support to develop a culminating research project in your particular area of interest.
New diploma cohorts launch annually in July, with program completion anticipated at the end of December of a student’s third year, and convocation following in February.
The combined use of art and expressive arts modalities is becoming more common and gives greater flexibility to adapt to the creative strengths and preferences of the client. The solid foundation you will receive in art and expressive arts therapy will allow you to establish a private practice and facilitate individual and group therapy, while also preparing you to work in an agency or program requiring a specialist in these disciplines. You will be trained to work with a diverse variety of populations and have an expanded network of experienced instructors to support you in your transition to the workplace.
